A capsule slip ring is a general term for slip rings whose housing is equipped with a circular flange. It is called a capsule slip ring because its appearance resembles a cap.
A slip ring consists of two main parts: a rotating part and a stationary part. The rotating part operates together with the rotating structure of the equipment and is referred to as the rotor, while the stationary part is connected to the fixed structure of the device and is called the stator.
In general, the inner ring of the slip ring functions as the rotor, and the outer ring functions as the stator. Slip rings are designed for bidirectional rotation, and there is no fundamental difference whether the outer ring or the inner ring rotates. Whether the outer ring serves as the rotor or the inner ring serves as the rotor mainly depends on the installation method of the slip ring.
