Installation Methods for Pancake Slip Rings

A pancake conductive slip ring is a type of slip ring in which both the brush wires and conductive rings are designed in a flat concentric circular structure. Multiple brush wires and ring circuits are arranged radially from the inner circle to the outer circle on the same plane. Because its shape resembles a flat disc, it is commonly referred to as a pancake slip ring.

Pancake conductive slip rings are generally available in two configurations: integrated and separated types.

The integrated pancake slip ring can be further divided into solid types and hollow shaft types with different bore sizes.

The separated pancake slip ring is designed with the stator and rotor integrated into separate PCBA boards, which helps save installation space and enables a more compact slip ring design.

Installation Instructions for Pancake Slip Rings

Since a pancake slip ring consists of two conductive slip ring plates that rotate relative to each other, the rotor part must be fixed during installation. The anti-rotation rod should then be inserted into the anti-rotation tab, ensuring that a certain degree of freedom is maintained.

The anti-rotation tab must not be forcibly fixed, as this may cause damage to the slip ring or prevent it from achieving the expected service life.

Installation Precautions

  1. During the installation of the pancake slip ring, the lead wires must be carefully protected to avoid damage to the insulation layer, which could affect the overall product quality.

  2. The slip ring is a precision electrical component and should operate in a dry and low-dust environment. If the operating environment is harsh, additional protective measures should be implemented.

  3. Ensure that the nuts or screws of the fixed parts are securely tightened and do not loosen.

  4. The stator wires should be kept away from the rotating shaft, and the rotor wires should be kept away from the stationary parts, to prevent the wires from being scratched during rotation.

  5. Depending on the actual application requirements, the stator and rotor of the slip ring can be interchanged. It does not matter which part rotates and which part remains stationary.
